Hurricanes are a particularly complicated form of insurance because there are many things that can go wrong during a hurricane; wind damage, hail damage, damage from debris, coastal flooding, rain flooding, interior water damage from roof leaks, electrical damage, mold, structural damage. Hurricanes are multiple disasters in one and making sure your insurance provider understands your situation is very important. We will go over your policy with a fine toothed comb to make sure you understand what is and isn’t covered in the event of a hurricane.
Typically property insurance plans that cover wind damage exclude flood damage, and plans that cover flood damage exclude wind damage. That is why it is very important to prove which caused the damage to your home. Was it flooding due to wind blowing off part of your roof letting rain in, or did coastal waters flood your home? Is the structural damage to your foundation caused from strong winds, or did creeping flood water weaken the structure? We will help take the confusion out of it and differentiate which is flood damage and which is wind damage.
Like many of our other areas of expertise, we will take detailed photographs of all damage and create detailed documentation of all damaged property or belongings. Should you need a place to stay while things are being sorted out, we will also help to make those arrangements. We will also recommend licensed contractors to fix the damage. Finally, we will go over your policy and negotiate with your insurance provider to get you the best payout possible.
